Scoopster MX Tyre: The Sand Terrain Revolution

Test Report and Facts

Two passionate motocross fans, Gerd Frey, owner of Gibson Power Tech GmbH, and Jan Heller, a tyre expert with over 20 years of experience in the motocross tyre business, pursued an ambitious goal: to create a comprehensive portfolio and develop an entirely new, optimised motocross tyre for Gibson Tyre. With the aim of creating the best performance sand tyre, the team took an innovative and completely new approach to developing the 5.2 Scoopster sand tyre. For this project, they brought none other than Max Nagl, a star of the German MX scene, on board as a team and development partner.

The Birth of the Scoopster – A Tyre for Sandy Terrain

In 2022, the time had come: three prototypes with different rubber compounds and carcass flexibilities were tested to find the optimal combination of grip, stability, and durability – and thus the Scoopster tyres were born, setting a new benchmark in the development of sand tyres. With their innovative technology and targeted focus on performance and versatility, they were developed specifically to meet the highest demands in racing and training conditions on sandy terrain.

Test Phases of the Scoopster Tyres

The development of the Scoopster was accompanied by extensive test phases:

Start:

In 2023, the test phase began in cooperation with the KMP team and Max Nagl. Testing of the tyre intensified mid-season. At the final race of the 2023 ADAC MX Masters in Dreetz, Max Nagl used the tyre for the first time in a race – and won the championship on it.

Intensification:

At the beginning of 2024, tests intensified in Spain, involving riders such as Nico Greutmann, Liam Owens, Stefan Ekerold (Racing Team Cat Moto), and in Belgium Adam Sterry, Cornelius Töndel, Lyn Valk and Dave Kooiker (Schmicker Racing). The test phase provided valuable insights. Particularly on harder tracks in Spain, there was initial scepticism. But this quickly turned into enthusiasm as the Scoopster's exceptional performance became evident. Max Nagl commented enthusiastically: "This is the best sand tyre I’ve ever ridden."

First Race Appearances and Successes

The Scoopster officially launched in April 2024 with the first production run and is now available for sale. The team's hard work and dedication paid off.

First official race outing 2024: The Scoopster tyres were used for the first time at the ADAC MX Masters in Drehna in April 2024.

ADAC Masters: Max Nagl dominated the ADAC Masters while Nico Greutmann won the ADAC Youngster Cup.

Successes: In 2024, the Scoopster won all sand races at the ADAC MX Masters – with different riders. 19 out of 24 holeshots went to the Scoopster, and Max Nagl claimed all sand races at the ADAC Germany. Additionally, numerous regional wins and championship titles were secured with the Scoopster.

Youth classes: Four days before the ADAC Youth National Finals in Höchstädt, the MX tyres in children’s sizes (90/100-12 and 90/100-16) were introduced and scored immediate wins in the 65cc, 85cc, and 125cc classes. The Scoopster has proven itself a dominant MX tyre with numerous regional championships and an impressive track record.

Children’s sizes: The Scoopster instantly set the performance benchmark in the youth categories. The tyres are also expected to feature at the prestigious Motocross of Nations (MXoN), one of the most important events in international motocross.

Scoopster Becomes the Riders’ Favourite

The Scoopster tyres set new standards for sand tyres. Thanks to innovative technologies, extensive testing and a strong success record, they’ve proven to be the ideal choice for both professional motocross riders and young talents. Their versatility is particularly noteworthy, making them a must-have in every garage.
